The Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) is a professional who has completed coursework in learning disabilities and has experience working with students who have LD. The LDTC provides consultation to school staff, parents, and other professionals on how best to serve children with learning disabilities.

Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) Responsibilities:

  • The LDTC will work with students in Grades 3-12 who are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing, math, or other areas of academic performance.
  • This position will lead the efforts of the reading and writing centers in your school district as well as provide support to teachers and students both during and after school.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, the LDTC will also provide support services for teachers in their classrooms as well as provide service to the school and community.
  • The LDTC will also partner with parents and other members of the community to meet the needs of students who are experiencing difficulties in school.
  • They will also collaborate with teachers to find strategies that can be used to help struggling learner transitions into grade level curriculum.
  • The LDTC will also provide support to the administration team and central office staff as well as ensure all learners receive a high quality of education and needed accommodations.
  • The LDTC is responsible for developing and implementing a plan for each student they are assigned to in order to monitor academic progress, behavior and social skills.
  • This means the LDTC will meet with parents, teachers, students and other professionals and write an individualized plan for each student they are assigned.
  • The individualized plan should be tailored to the particular needs of the student and their family. 

Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant (LDTC) Qualifications

This position requires that the individual meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Special Education, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • LDTC Certification
  • Two years experience working with students who have learning disabilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • The individual must be able to interact with parents, students, school staff and other professionals in a positive way.
  • In addition, the learning disabilities teacher consultant must also have strong computer skills.
